Since June 2004, Auxilia has developed a European Department in order to facilitate the implication of French local authorities into European projects dealing with sustainable development issues. Auxilia's European activity also aims at disseminating good practices that are being realised at the national level. Thus, Auxilia wishes to promote the French contribution to the sustainable development of the European Union, while benefiting from the expertise on sustainability acquired at the supra-national scale.
Auxilia has therefore developed contacts and partnerships with organisations working at the European level such as large city networks (ICLEI Europe, Eurocities, Climate Alliance), and with national NGOs developing local sustainability in their respective country like FocusLab in Italy.
The activities of the European Projects Department aim at :
- initiating, facilitating and promoting the involvement of French local authorities into projects focusing on sustainable development and territories ;
- researching and disseminating tools and experiences successfully developed by local authorities in order to widen the positive impacts of best sustainable development practices.
The exchange of knowledge between French and European stakeholders as well as their mutual co-operation on projects is essential to fulfil the objectives for sustainable development set both at the national and supra-national levels.
Auxilia is, through various European projects and partnerships, currently tackling five main topics :
- Sustainable procurement
- Energy
- Local agendas 21 in Europe
- Adaptation to climate change
- Urban policies
